class and small groups for discussion Radio Activity - On a map of Europe, identify the countries of immigrant origin mentioned in the radio program. [England, Wales, Scotland, Russia, Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary] What conditions and events in Europe prompted immigration to the United States? Observe the similarities and differences between the southeast Ohio area and countries of origin on topographical maps. What does your comparison suggest? Interview Activity - Interview members of your family to determine your ancestral roots. Use a large classroom map to label the patterns of migration to your community. When did they come? What was their source of employment - were they farmers, miners, housemaids? Additional Activities - Visit the Ellis Island web site to see what
