Students - To place the Ohio river in its historical and geographical context. Placement in Curriculum/Subject Areas - History, Geography, and Social Studies. Radio Activity - After listening to the radio stories, what positive and negative influences does the Ohio River have on nearby communities? Categorize your findings into tourism, transportation, hydroelectric power, water source, fishing, and natural overflow/disaster. Interview Activity - Interview family and community members to gather river stories. Additional Activities - Examine a map to trace the course of the Ohio River. Identify river towns, state boundaries, and its impact on the landscape.Investigate further the geological impact of the Ohio River on farming - compare to the Nile & Mississippi. What role has the Ohio River played in our national history? Westward expansion, war, and industrial. Take a field trip to a nearby river town. Learn more about the Ohio River flood of 1937.
