Undergraduate Admission Requirements

For admission consideration into the School of Media Arts and Studies, all applicants should meet or exceed the following minimum guidelines:

  • Class Rank: Top 40% of your class
  • Test Scores: ACT Composite Score of 23 -or- SAT 1 Combined Score of 1060

Students not accepted into the School of Media Arts and Studies may appeal this decision by submitting the materials described below. All materials must be received by February 1st for consideration. Appeals are sent to a faculty committee for review and students will be notified of the appeal decision in mid-March. Required Appeal Materials

Please submit all of the following. Incomplete appeals will not be considered.

  1. Written letter of appeal. This letter should formally request review of your appeal. You should address admission criteria and discuss why you feel your credentials should be reassessed for admission into the School of Media Arts and Studies. You should detail the contributions you bring to the School, including any personal and/or professional experiences that make your application extraordinary.
  2. Updated grades and/or test scores. Please include an updated official transcript of grades and/or scores.
  3. Essay. Respond to the following inquiry in a form of an essay of no longer than two typed, double-spaced pages:
    Why does attending the School of Media Arts and Studies meet your academic goals now and your professional goals after graduation?

Optional Appeal Materials

Individuals who desire admission into one of the production majors (audio or video) may choose to send a samples of your original, individual work to demonstrate your production talent and skill. However, please note that more consideration will be given to the required materials listed above. No appeal materials will be returned. Examples of your production submissions are to be submitted either on CD, Mini-DV or DVD.

Students whose high school records do not meet the above requirements, but still meet university minimums, or students who do not gain entrance to the School of Media Arts and Studies through appeal, will be offered admission to the university through the University College. (Please see the University College website for more information.) Once admitted to University College and at the completion of their first year, students who meet the requirements for transfer may apply for transfer into the school.
